Recap: Hack Like A Girl

Women make up just 14% in the field of IT in Germany. This is a number that needs to be changed. One organization intent on making that change happen is Geek Girls Carrots Berlin. Last weekend, Geek Girls Carrots Berlin organized the ‘Hack like a girl!’ hackathon to motivate and inspire more women to work in IT and show that diversity is possible.

Developers, designers, data scientists, project managers and more worked for two days in teams of 2 to 5 people, some of whom spent the entire night working on their projects! There were almost 50 participants, around one third of which were men who support the idea of diversity.

After two intense days of hard work, the three winning teams were awarded prizes by the judges and the weekend wound down with drinks and a great celebration. The full list of projects can be viewed here.

The Hackathon was possible thanks to many Berlin IT companies who believe that increasing diversity is a necessary step: Axel Springer, Young Targets, GLOSSYBOX, Native Instruments, Rocket Internet, here, SoundCloud, adjust, EWMD, Gr├╝nderszene. adsquare were thrilled to be one of the main sponsors. Check out all the photos on the Geek Girls Carrots facebook page.
